THE 6TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON FISHERIES AND AQUACULTURE 2019 (ICFA 2019)
The 6th International Conference on Fisheries and Aquaculture 2019, was held on 22nd – 23rd August 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand under the theme “Sustainable Aquaculture: Nutritional Security and Exports”. The Conference was organized by The International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM), Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand and University Muhammadiyah Malang, Indonesia as the Co-hosting partners while Curtin University, Malaysia, Maejo University, Thailand, University of Baltistan Skardu, Pakistan, Bihar Animal Sciences University (BASU), India and Uva Wellassa University, Sri Lanka, as academic partners, and the Department of Fisheries (DoF), Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Thailand as the supportive ministry for the conference.
The opening remarks of ICFA 2019 were made by the Conference Chair Dr. Ravi Fotedar (Curtin University, Australia) together with Mr. Isanka P. Gamage (Managing Director, The International Institute of Knowledge Management). Mrs. Chuanpid Chantarawathit, Expert in Fisheries Foreign Affairs Division, Department of Fisheries (DoF), Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Thailand delivered the key speech on behalf of the chief guest Dr. Adisorn Promthep (Director-General of Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Thailand).
The Keynote forum was enlightened by Dr.Krishna R. Salin (Associate Professor and Program Chair, Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management (AARM), Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand) on the topic “Eco-Friendly and Energy-Efficient Coastal Aquaculture Development in Asia”. Dr. Yuan Derun (Senior Programme Officer, Sustainable Farming System, Programme, Education and Training Programme, Network of Aquaculture Centres in Asia-Pacific (NACA), Thailand) also delivered the keynote speech titled “Aquaculture: The Growth Limitation and Untapped Opportunities”. Next in line was Dr. Ravi Fotedar (Curtin University, Australia) who delivered the speech on “Do Advances in Aquaculture Nutrition Contributes to Aquaculture Sustainability?”
ICFA 2019 consisted of over 50 participants from Sri Lanka and other 13 countries: India, Thailand, Bangladesh, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Korea, Oman, Philippines, Egypt, Vietnam and Saudi Arabia. This conference included 09 technical sessions on areas including: “Aquatic Resource Management”, “Ecology, Environment Impacts of Aquaculture, Climate Change, Ornamental Species and Aquaculture Development”, “Feeding and Nutrition”, Aquatic Health Management, Immunity and Diseases”, “Fish Biology and Ecotoxicology”, “Socio-Economics, Policy and Governance”, “Post-Harvest, Quality Control, Quality Assuarance and Supply Chain”, Molecular Biology and Genetics” with the poster session.
Meanwhile there was a “Partner Cocktail Evening” exclusively only for the Partner Universities of the ICFA’19 conference. In addition to that, there were several workshops inside the Conference conducted by resource persons including “Workshop on Seafood Cold Chain Management and Quality Monitoring”, “Workshop on Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL) in Aquaculture”, “Workshop on Water Quality Bioremediation: An Innovative Approach”, “Workshop on Important statistical methods used in research using SPSS” and “Panel Discussion on Water Scarcity and Sustainable Aquaculture”. The Conference was successfully concluded with a field tour visit sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Department of Fisheries, Thailand.
